Week
3
It’s been 3 weeks since I’ve been here and I have been very
productive with everything that has been going on. In our first week I’ve met a
farmer here named Segis who is truly the epitome of someone who is a visionary.
From the first day that I met him learned that he was a very gracious man and
he was very different from all the other vendors. Even though we only have
known each other for such a short time I feel like I’ve known him and his wife
Yadira for a lifetime. They carry themselves with so much humbleness and palpable
energy. They represent the idea that you can do anything you put your mind to
is totally possible and the universe is on your side and doesn’t want to work
against you.
I’ve
noticed out here that there is not a lot of comradery with different vendors
because of how cutthroat the environment is here in Mexico. They don’t have the
economic support that they need to thrive in their respective fields. But with
the help of human connections I truly believe they can make a difference.
Although, I’ve spoken to Elly I believe it’s time to expand our reach deeper
into NIU by reaching out to the Coms department as well as the Art department.
In the Coms department we need an internship to graduate and to study abroad is
a wonderful experience. I believe that targeting students who major in film can
increase the number of videos or short films that are made which will benefit
both parties. In addition, bringing art majors or graphic design will also help
Human connections because you have students who specialize in making flyers
that can help market the vendors here. I believe that can be a true game changer.
